Apologies in advance, The Introspectre will be a newsletter for weebs for the foreseeable future.
I just came from a two-week trip to Tokyo, Japan. There’s so much I could do, say, write about it all, but I figured the best thing I could do for now is just show and don’t tell… okay, maybe a little telling.
Consider this also a travel guide!
Substack puts a limit on photos, so I’ll be sending these out in parts. And btw, this is true in general but these posts will look so much better on the website.
Found at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. This chair designed by Naoto Fukasawa (exhibit curator and probably my favorite designer) was easily the most striking piece there. I’ll likely be writing about my visit separately.
They were selling full-fledged apparel at the gift shop. The fabrics and lines are incredible. I wonder who designed them…
Gacha for a friend.
Found in Omotesando. A few paces from both Omotesando Hills and Harajuku is a whole street lined with watch boutiques, among other fashion and accessories stores. A must-visit for watch people. (Take a breather at Onden while you’re there!)
Found in Harajuku. After years of fawning over côte&ciel, I finally made a visit to one of their stores. Very innovative design and CMF, and still lightyears ahead of the game.
I spotted quite a number of these on the streets of Tokyo. Despite its rugged mug, it seems like the comfiest ride of all time… if it were my size, which this is most definitely not.
A pick-me-up at a random FamilyMart. Much needed after 80-ish kms of cycling around Kasumigaura Bay, the second largest lake in Japan located north-east of Tokyo. Japanese vanilla just hit different.
Found at Tokyo Big Sight, where there was this trade show for local art, crafts, and fashion brands. My wallet never felt so vulnerable. Ended up buying gifts and a dope shirt from this local artist.
The whole time I was there, I drank Pocari only once. Pocari will always be a go-to refreshment, but I prefer Calpis.
